Keeping in touch during lockdown...

We are missing every single one of you and hope you are keeping safe and well.
It has been lovely to be able to see all of the amazing things you are doing at home through ClassDojo. You have all been so creative, and have covered a wide variety of learning activities.
Each week, we will add more activities for you to try at home. These are not compulsory, but obviously children will benefit from keeping things ticking over while we cannot be at school together. You can upload photos or attachments to show what children have done, but don’t feel that you have to photograph each and every page. This is about staying connected and providing opportunities for us to give some positive feedback and to keep the children motivated.

We know you are doing an amazing job at home and understand that this situation it extremely challenging for everyone, so please don’t feel guilty if there are things you cannot manage. Some parents we have spoken to have felt concerned that their child will be ‘falling behind’ but remember, every child in the class, year group, school, country, and across much of the world is in the same situation. When we are able to come back together, we will do what we always do, which is to embrace your child’s individual situation and support them to take their next steps forward. We know that there will be gaps, and will plan carefully to give whatever they need.
The most important things are to keep your child happy, safe, well and stimulated, in one way or other.
Take care,

The Year One Team x

Term 4 - Iggy Peck Architect

The children have absolutely embraced this project and we have many budding architects, engineers and builders in Year 1! We have carefully taught the children to use the tools and materials, being very mindful of safety as well as not being wasteful. They are now loving having the opportunity to design and make a multitude of models and toys. Watch this space for photos of the finished items!

Spring Term Project Newsletter

Animal Home Exhibition

Thank you so much for supporting your child to make their Animal Home, and also for being such a fantastic audience at our Exhibition. The children loved explaining what their animal needs and showing you how their home worked, and the whole experience was fantastic for developing their confidence and oracy skills. We can't believe how creative they all were!

Autumn Term 2019

We are delighted to welcome your children into Year 1 and to begin to get to know you all. We have worked hard to prepare the classrooms and have planned many exciting activities to start the term off with. Our first project is 'What's up Pussy Cat' and the children will learn all about different pets and how to look after them. For the first couple of weeks, we will keep the structure of the day very similar to what the children experienced in Reception, and you will gradually notice a few changes as we challenge and inspire the children towards greater things. Please see our termly newsletter (below) which explains more...

Each week, you will receive a copy of our Weekly News, which keeps you up to date with key events in Year One. It also includes a short, practical maths homework task that we would like you to complete with your child.  If you are looking for ways to support your child with their learning at home, the most important thing is to read to, and with your child every day.

Please do come and say 'hello' and do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
