Welcome to Year 2!
The Year 2 team is made up of the following staff:
Swallow Class: Miss Sims
Blackbird Class: Mrs Riley
Learning Support Assistants: Mrs Caine TA (T, W, Th mornings)
Mrs Fiona Sedgwick TA (M, F mornings)
Mrs Roberts and Mrs Sedgwick will be covering teachers' planning, preparation and assessment time (PPA) on alternate Wednesdays and Fridays.
Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays, however these may change at the last minute or we may have extra PE sessions. PE kits therefore need to remain in school every day.
We will use the website to update you about the things we have been learning in Year 2.
Please come and see us at anytime - after school is usually more convenient - if you have any queries or questions about anything.
This week we used the book 'Dear Earth' by Isabel Otter to inspire our learning. We wrote letters to Earth to thank it for the wonders of the world and to let it know how we are going to be protecting it. We also spent a couple of afternoons using the illustrator, Clara Anganuzzi, to inspire our artwork. The children worked hard in partners to support one other with drawing animals in their sketch books. Afterwards, we have a peaceful afternoon of water colouring to bring their artwork to life.
This week has sparked so many thoughtful discussions from the children and we are so proud of their enthusiasm to make a difference.
Check out the pictures below to see the children working hard in action and some of the final pieces.
The children have really enjoyed learning about the Tudors this term. We are very lucky to have a very beautiful Tudor Building in Nailsea called The Tithe Barn. Tithe means 'tax' and the villagers gave 10 percent of the food they grew to give to the Church and it was stored in the Barn. We met Lady Jo and Lady Joanna who led workshops where we made Nosegays, acted out the story of Henry VIII and his wives, made Ships Biscuits and learnt about the clothes of the rich and the poor.
We hope you enjoy looking at the photos!
What a fun packed afternoon we have all had - party games, a magician, singing and dancing! We even had a visit from Father Christmas who brought us some fabulous games to play in the classroom as well as a selection box each. Thank you Father Christmas x
We have been zoologists today - investigating the best micro habitat for woodlice and making some of our own. We discovered woodlice prefer moist, dark habitats.
