Year 2 DT Day  - Making gift packages

Friday 01.04.22

Today in Year 2 we had a whole day of DT! The aim of our day was to create our own gift package to hold a chocolate egg for one of our family members.

We started off the day by discussing gift packages and their purposes. We then looked at different types of gift packages that had already been made so we could see the different shapes, styles, patterns and colours that were used.

After that, we practiced constructing a gift package from a shaped net and started to create ideas we wanted to use for our own gift package. Then, we designed our gift package using a design sheet and once we had finished that, we created our own using a card net. Finally, we put the chocolate egg in our packages and filled out an evaluation form about our gift package.

Year 2 worked so hard today on their gift packages and really enjoyed seeing what they could make in just one day! Well done Year 2 :)

Tudor Day 25.03.22

Today in Year 2 we were lucky enough to spend the day with a very special historian visitor called Dr Jo Edwards. Dr Jo taught us all loads of new and exciting information about the Tudor times!

In the morning, we made our own medicine herb bags and we watched Dr Jo perform a puppet show about Henry VIII and his six wives with spoons! In the afternoon, we looked at a famous Tudor portrait of Queen Elizabeth I and created our own portrait of her, we wrote about who we thought was the most important person in the Tudor times and we designed our own spoon puppet!

Year 2 had a fabulous time and everyone participated wonderfully. We said a huge thank you to Dr Jo Edwards!

English Debate - Blackbird Class

In English this week, Year 2 took part in a debate using their oracy skills. It was based on our English book called 'Diary of a Killer Cat'. One side had to argue that 'Tuffy', the cat in the story, was a nasty killer cat, whilst the other side had to argue that Tuffy is just a cat and is following his natural cat instincts. The two teams used their oracy skills to convince the other team that their opinion was the correct one. Both sides were very convincing and had very good comebacks! The children really enjoyed this and it was a great way for them to explore their English skills in a different way! Here are some photos of how the debate was set up in Blackbird Class!

Wallbars - Indoor PE

During Term 3 Blackbirds and Swallows have started to explore the Wallbars and other exciting apparatus during Indoor PE. The children are challenging themselves every week with new heights, new activities and exploring what they can do independently. All of the children have loved the wallbars and apparatus, and look forward to it every week. Here are some lovely photos of them during Indoor PE recently! Look out for the brilliant and hilarious action shots!

Autumn Term Year 2

We hope your child has settled in well to Year 2 and that the transition has been easy for them. Please do get in touch if there is any way that we can help or if you have any queries. You will find more information in our Parents' Leaflet for Terms 1 and 2 (see below).

Below, you can see some of the activities that last year's Year 2 children were involved in:

What a fantastic day we had building our Tudor Houses. The children spent time looking at photos of Tudor Houses to identify the features before constructing their own models.

We had great fun completing the 'target, throw, run' sporting event this week. The children used their Secrets of Success and pushed themselves in teams to complete target challenges. Well done to all children in Year 2 for their great teamwork and top efforts.

National mile event- The whole school had great fun on Friday completing the challenge of running/ walking a mile. Year 2 had been training hard over the past few weeks and really impressed us with how well they pushed themselves. Well done, Year 2!

Red Nose Day- We enjoyed participating in a superhero parade and feeding the lambs in our costumes.

We had a fantastic time yesterday making safari vehicles out of recycling materials. We were so impressed by the final products. The children worked so hard to follow their designs.
