Reception PE day is on a MONDAY. Your child will need to wear their PE kit to school on this day.
We had a beautiful day for our end of year Garden Party! We played some party games and ate some party food and ice lollies in the shade under the trees....
Sports Day 2021
The children all had an amazing time today at Sports Day and all took part in lots of different team relay races. There were 2 relay teams for each house so everyone was very busy competing in each race. Our relays involved running, kangaroo hopping, quoit balancing, bat and beanbag balancing, beanbag throwing, moving a tennis ball and...our favourite...beach ball bellies!! The children collected cones for each completed run and also practised their maths by counting a total for each event. We had a lovely morning and hope you like the photos below:
We have enjoyed lots of different physical activities this week, including virtual league games in PE, dancing to songs and routines on Go Noodle and Boogie Beebies, parachute games and riding the bikes and trikes. On Thursday we had a tennis lesson with Backwell Tennis Club, which was great fun but very very windy!
Last week our Robins and Sparrows dressed in Green and got busy planting! All of the children planted their own sunflower seed which is now being nurtured at home, we also recycled milk bottles to use as planters and filled tyres and pots with different plants to brighten up our outside area! Each class has also planted beans and cress for classroom observation. The children were really engaged and very knowledgeable about how to look after the plants!
Diwali Week in Reception
This week we have been learning all about the festival of Diwali in Reception. We learnt that it is the Hindu and Sikh festival of light and that it starts tomorrow (Saturday 14th Nov). We made our own diva lights out of clay and then decorated them with shiny paint. We investigated how light shines through some materials and reflects off other when we went into the dark tent with our torches. We learnt about Rangoli patterns and Mendhi paintings. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and acted out in a story square - some of us dressed up in traditional Hindu sari. We made garlands and wore them to our own Diwali celebration in the hall. We lit our diva candles and sang some diwali songs.
Welcome back to Term 2
During week 1 and 2 of this term, we will be learning all about some festivals and traditions. This week have been learning all about Bonfire Night and Remembrance Day. We have talked all about Guy Fawkes and firework safety. We used fluorescent paints on black paper to create our own firework display. We also learned a little about Remembrance Day and talked about why people wear poppies. We watched a short video about how poppies are made and sold to raise money for the injured soldiers and their families. (Google - The Poppy Story - Early Years). We all coloured poppies and made a poppy wreath to hang up in our classroom - some children coloured their own to bring home or drew poppy fields on the Interactive Whiteboard.
Autumn Welly Walk
This morning we went for an autumn walk around the school grounds. We started in our playground and collected a selection of different
coloured leaves and skewering them on to sticks. We also looked for other signs of autumn; finding sycamore helicopters, crab apples and beech nuts. We walked around the school building and finished our walk in the picnic/bicycle rack area. We saw different types of leaves and enjoyed kicking and throwing them in the air.
Our Dinosaur Project
Today we started our Dinosaur project with a WOW activity in the playground...we went on a dinosaur hunt and found some frozen dinosaur eggs! We took them back to our classrooms and tried to warm them up to release the baby dinosaurs. We watched carefully as the ice melted. We also built a camouflaged den so that we could hide and spot dinosaurs. We built time machines from Mobilo so that we could 'travel back in time'. Children drew their own dinosaur eggs and completed some dinosaur puzzles. We used the information books to find out lots of facts about different dinosaurs. We talked about dinosaurs being 'extinct' and how this might have happened. We also talked about fossils and how these might have been made. Here are some photos of our dinosaur adventures:
PE in Week 5
Today in PE the children in Robins and Sparrows have been focusing on Ball Skills. We started with a fun 'Bean Game' warm up and then worked with our friends rolling the ball and running to collect it before moving on to aiming to roll the ball through a gate! We all had a lot of fun!
Third week at school
This week everyone has painted their own self-portrait and written their name on it. These are up on display in the classrooms. We also have a new “Areas of learning” display up in our shared practical area. At the end of the week, the children got to play in the new mud kitchen which has proved to be a huge success!
Lunchtime at School
This week the children have stayed in school for their lunch for the first time. They have met their dinner ladies: Mrs Goodman in Sparrows and Miss Garrett in Robins. They have learnt the routines well - queued up sensibly, asked for their meals politely and, generally, eaten well. They have enjoyed their food and the relaxed atmosphere in the hall. After eating, they have enjoyed playing together in the playground. Here are a few pictures for you:
Our Second Week at School
Here are a few photos showing the children playing, plus the displays we have put up and some of the different areas the children have access to in Reception. It’s been another lovely week!
Exploring our School
Today we went on a walk around the outside of our school. We looked at all the different buildings and met some of the teachers (from a safe distance!). We spotted cars in the car park and saw the trees that are growing in our 'forest'. We explored the playground and looked and listened for Sparrows and Robins.
Our First Week at School
We have had a super start to our time in Reception. We have played in our classrooms, in the practical area, the conservatory and outside. We have enjoyed doing puzzles, painting, drawing and creating pictures, using the Interactive Whiteboard, listening to stories, maths activities, playing with the train track, fire station and farm, building with bricks and boxes, dressing up, and playing in the home corner. We have met up with old friends and made lots of new ones. We have had a lovely time and hope you enjoy looking at our photos.
